Just in case anyone’s wondering, much of my hosted images are coming from Apple’s MobileMe service, but not for much longer. I’m not renewing MobileMe as it simply hasn’t met expectations.
iDisk is still intolerably slow
The web apps aren’t anywhere near as good as what else is available on the interwebs
Storage space is nice, but problem #1 above keeps it from realizing its full potential
OTA syncing with my iPhone isn’t worth $100/year
This is all a long way to say that if you notice images flaking a bit over the next little bit, it is likely due to the moving of my content. I’m also switching from wordpress.com to a self-hosted blog at Go Daddy. I don’t have any issues with WordPress.com, but I would like a bit more control over themes, plugins, embedding, etc. Only time will tell if this is a good choice. So, much is happening in the next 24 hours or so.
Well, I haven’t blogged much lately and I’m absolutely NOT a sports fan, but I will be recording the Superbowl tomorrow as I do every year to see the advertisements. However, one that I was very keen on checking out has hit the net. Thanks to Atomic Popcorn for pointing it out…
The trailer for G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra has hit a bit early even though it will premiere tomorrow.
The trailer looks quite good and I’m encouraged by some of the cast that was pulled together here. Now, the real question is can the plot hold up, but I bet it will be one hell of a ride regardless.
Tonight, after putting Ben to bed, I sat down to watch the Blu-ray of Eagle Eye that was delivered from Netflix today. I didn’t really know much of anything about the movie beforehand, but wasn’t terribly impressed afterwards either.
The general idea is that Shia LaBeouf and Michelle Monaghan play strangers who through thoroughly unbelievable circumstances are forced into running from the law & military by a unknown individual that seems to control all technology around them. I won’t spoil the plot that truly stretched my willingness to suspend disbelief, but suffice it to say, not all is at appears and more is uncovered by supporting actors such as Rosario Dawson and Billy Bob Thornton.
The movie is a heavy handed attempt to prey on the fear of surveillance, the Patriot Act, and the current climate of guilty until proven innocent. However, it isn’t terribly intelligent in handling these issues. I think many theatergoers, probably missed some of the point.
On the positive side, I think Shia LeBeouf’s acting is improving. Now don’t misunderstand me, he’s not likely to be winning any awards for the performance, but I thought it was somewhat more believable than I have seen from him previously…
All in all, not a great movie, but somewhat entertaining…maybe worth a watch on a quiet night?
Well, it’s been a hohum kind of day. I don’t really want to talk about it, but I’m not really feeling it right now. Also, the Apple Keynote at MacWorld really left me wanting. There was nothing big at all. I will say the iPhoto/iMovie changes sound nice and I’m pre-ordering the new iLife suite as a result, but the new 17″ MacBook Pro…meh and the iTunes Music Store going DRM free…slightly less meh.
UPDATE: iLife ‘09 preordered. Yes, this one does excite me the more I think about it.
Cool new features:
iPhoto
Face detection/tagging
Geotagging
Place/Person organization
Facebook & Flickr uploading
iMovie
Precision editing (about time this was brought back from the old iMovie and hopefully it actually works)
Themes
Travel Maps
Garage Band
Artist Lessons (Yes, this may be gimmicky, but heck I wouldn’t mind being taught by Sarah McLachlan, Norah Jones, or Ben Folds to play their songs)
Well, I have been doing a downright lousy job of posting while on vacation. So, I guess…Happy New Year to all!
It’s been a busy week and a half, we traveled to South Carolina and Atlanta, GA. We got to spend some quality time with family. I got to take a boatload of videos and photos and have been posting those quite a lot. All in all, it’s been a good time that hasn’t lasted long enough, but getting back to work tomorrow should be good and I’m looking forward to seeing what 2009 has in store.
We did a couple of things this weekend in that we picked up an animated, lighted polar bear for Christmas decorations next year, but I’m still hoping to pick up more as Ben loves some decorations as of this latest Christmas. Then, we did something that is likely long overdue. We picked up a pretty nice elliptical from Dick’s Sporting Goods. I’m waiting for delivery next week, but this should be very good. I never seemed to have time to work in the gym much around work & family, but now, I should have 0 excuses as I’ll be able to watch TV, DVDs, or video podcasts while exercising. Hopefully, I will get back into the swing of things quickly.
This morning we had an early Christmas celebration. Ben got his train table and train set (more trains to come on Christmas morning) as we felt it would be cruel to give it to him Christmas morning when we would be leaving to see family shortly thereafter. The funny thing is that the train table has been sitting in his room under a green blank for a few weeks now. He took to calling it his “green bed”, but never seemed to try and look under the blanket. I think he is definitely enjoying this Christmas so far and this is the first year he has shown interest in the hallmarks of the holidays such as Santa Claus, Rudolph, snow men, etc.
I can’t wait to see how he deals with Christmas Eve/Christmas morning!
Wow, seems the Penny Arcade guys really hatedPlaystation Home. And that was just the post discussing the comic beating on Home. I’ve downloaded it, but thus far haven’t actually started it up. Home is a risky proposition as many will ridicule it regardless of its potential quality and likely few will truly love it. Outside of those camps, the great masses may never use it. Considering all of this, is it truly worth it?
Not sure and I’ll withold judgement until I try it and see how it begins to evolve. I enjoy new social networking opportunities. Only time will tell…
Because we have to chase him. Because he’s the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So, we’ll hunt him because he can take it; because he’s not our hero. He’s a silent guardian, a watchful protector, a dark knight.
I just finished watching my new Blu-ray of The Dark Knight. I do love this movie and as I twittered earlier, between this, Iron Man, and WALL-E, we’ve had an amazing year for fun, interesting movies. I love the above lines from Commissioner Gordon in the last minutes of the movie. I think they could’ve come off as really cheesy, but Gary Oldman delivers the lines wonderfully.
The Blu-ray is beautiful. Some had commented that the flipping of aspect ratios between the typical film scenes and the IMAX scenes was distracting, but I didn’t notice the transition. When I was looking for it, I could obviously see it occur, but it wasn’t problematic at all. I haven’t dug into the special features or BD Live content yet, but I’m sure I will in the coming days/weeks.
All in all, I’m thrilled to be able to watch this again and in such amazing video quality is a treat.
The only thing I think I would disagree with was that my phone call to her was “frantic”. I actually thought it was calm especially given the fact that I had been in an urgent care for 2-3 hours waiting and then calming a toddler as they drew blood, took x-rays, forced oxygen treatments, etc. I didn’t have the luxury of freaking out as I had to be calm for Ben. Oh well, minor quibble.
He’s doing much better, but he is violently opposing any medicine we try to give him, so the next several days are going to continue to be fun
I’m just glad he’s doing so much better. Thanks for the kind thoughts!
